Childhood

Children in the UK are the unhappiest in the developed world. One in five teenagers has mental health issues. British children start school earlier, they spend more hours in the classroom and then do more homework…and then consistently come towards the bottom of international league tables for educational achievement.

I write about the issues that affect children today: the impact of a risk-averse society; learning difficulties like the autistic spectrum and ADHD; broken/mixed/blended/traditional parental models; and the impact of online culture on young people. To name a few.

In the name of journalistic bias, I lay my cards on the table: I am huge supporter  of forest schools, outdoor activity and gardening as crucial ways of making children happier, more confident and healthier.
